Department of English
English Department of Govt. Autonomous Girls P.G. College of Excellence, as a department of language exists since the beginning (1964) of the college. The department has witnessed a galloping change in the choice of students. In 1964, English was treated as a foreign language and students, mostly belonging to Hindi medium schools, were not interested in literature. A few students opted English Literature in the graduation course. As time passed and education became as necessity to girls, the choice of English raised among the students. In the 21st century, where only education is not necessary, but financial security in the form of employment or one's own business, is at the centre of life, students (girls) are frequently opting English literature as their major subject for graduation and not a single seat remains vacant in the PG Classes (140 seats).
Lately, English medium schools have sprung up in the society and every other student finds English as the subject of her ease and fancy. This outlook of students finds evidence in the list of those pass-out students, who are, either working in government organizations or earning their livelihood in private sectors.
We are proud of our students who are working hard to brighten their future and we are also satisfied with the teachers of English Department for their unfailing support to the students and for their sincerity in encouraging the students to find their final place in the field of employment as well as the field of social and spiritual satisfaction.
Paying attention to the needs of the students, the department is also running Open Elective English courses for the students of Commerce and Science faculty, where focus has been placed upon Communicative English and Business English.
Looking at the strength of the department, and in order to meet the demand of the research activity, the college has sent a proposal for the research centre and the department is all set to bear this responsibility and waiting for the declaration of Research Centre by Maharaja Chhatrasal Bundelkhand University, with which the college is affiliated.
